Updates on local, regional, and federal advocacy topics

There are several on-going advocacy projects, such as the work on the Alameda St. bike/ped bridge and partnering with City of Tempe to encourage bicyclist and motorists to share the road. TBAG is represented on several transportation planning committees – do let us know if you want to help out and represent TBAG. For more details, check out:http://www.biketempe.org/advocacy-outreach/. If you have other ideas about what TBAG should be working on – please email us or come to the upcoming advocacy meetings, first Thursday of each month, at 7pm at Boulders on Broadway.

Bike Culture by Eric “650c” Iwersen
Sharing the love of bicycles

Bicycle Public Art:   TBAG is seeking to commission an artist (or artists team) to work with to create a permanent public art piece in Tempe, in the Mitchell Park Neighborhoods area.  The project commission is for $15K and is inclusive of all design and fabrication costs associated with the project.   TBAG, the neighborhoods, and the City of Tempe will work with the artist to see the project through to construction.  The intention of the project is to create a local landmark that supports bicycle culture in Tempe.  Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to apply.  Check out http://www.biketempe.org/public-art-project/ for more information.

The Broadmor Elementary Bike Cats are hosting their final bike ride of the school year on Saturday May 7th. Broadmor Elementary is on College Rd. south of Broadway Rd. in Tempe. This is open to any families with children. Here’s some info:

Our next (and likely last for the school year) bike rodeo will be Saturday, May 7. I have bags of goodies for all of the riders from our good friends at Phoenix Children’s Hospital as well as a last batch of helmets for those who are in need.

Landis will be there to do another great mini-repair shop beginning at 9am, then at 10 we will do the drawing for the prizes. Then we will head out for the ride to and around Tempe Town Lake – the ride we intended to do last month before we got rained out. The ride is just over 7 miles and will take around 90 minutes. Here’s a map of the route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/30949832. It may still be warm, so please be sure to bring water and sunscreen – and your helmets, of course!
