This Saturday, March 21, I will be leading a special double-ride to the Scottsdale Farmer’s Market and then to Sprinkles for cupcakes! We will meet at 8 am at the Tempe Beach Park entrance for an 8-mile ride up the greenbelt, and will plan on returning by noon. It should be fun!

Sorry for the last-minute notice, but there *will* be a ride to First Fridays tomorrow. Meet up at 6 pm at Tempe Beach Park, with plans to stop by the Rusty Spoke and Radio Phoenix.

And if that isn’t enough, don’t forget the cupcake ride on Saturday at 10 am, also leaving from Tempe Beach Park for an expedition up to Sprinkles in Scottsdale!

Thank you everyone, for another fun and successful Tour de Fat! Bicycles were ridden, beer was enjoyed, and entertainment was had by all. In upcoming days, as we recover from the fun and take stock of things, we’ll provide more details on how the event went. Again, all proceeds from the Tour de Fat benefit four local nonprofit biking organizations: TBAG, the Bike Saviours, the Mountain Biking Association of Arizona, and the Central Arizona Mountain Bike Patrol.

In the meantime, mark your calendars for the following upcoming events, some organized by the City of Tempe and some by TBAG:

Wednesday, October 15
: Tempe Walk to School Day.
Check the Tempe in Motion website for details.
Saturday, October 18, 10 am, Tempe Beach Park Entrance: Cupcake Ride to Lulu’s Cupcakes (4-mile leisurely ride or 15-mile appetite-stimulating ride)
SUNDAY, October 26: 13th annual Tour de Tempe bike ride
Registration starts at 7 am, the ride starts at 8:30 am, departing from Kiwanis Park
TBAG volunteers will be on hand to serve as ride marshals.
See the Tempe in Motion website for more details.
Sunday, November 2, 3-5 pm: Annual Membership Meeting, location TBA

Things are hopping these days! Here are two upcoming rides that I’ll be leading, so mark your calendars now. These will both be leisurely rides open to all kinds of bicyclists.

Saturday, October 4, 7 am, Tempe Beach Park
: Ride to the Downtown Phoenix Farmer’s Market.
This ride is 9 miles one way. Bring cash to buy things at the Market. We could also arrange to stop for breakfast if there’s interest (Matt’s Big Breakfast, Tammie Coe Cakes, or…).

Saturday, October 18, 10 am, Tempe Beach Park: Cupcake Ride, destination TBA
.
Saddle up for another cupcake expedition! Depending on interest, we can go back up to Sprinkles (9 miles) or to Lulu’s (4 miles and a local business). Let me know your destination of choice in the comments!

Join us for two rewards in one event: a pleasant and leisurely ride from Tempe Beach Park to Sprinkles in Scottsdale. We’ll meet up at 10 am at the entrance to the park (northwest corner of Rio Salado and Mill), and will ride 8.5 miles up the greenbelt.

Riders of all sorts are welcome to come along, and we hope to keep these rides going in the upcoming months, although we will probably switch back to Lulu’s Cupcakes in the future.

UPDATE:
“Greenbelt” refers to the Indian Bend Wash

Everyone, sorry for the hiatus on posts there for a while. Occasionally we get busy. But the good news is, we’ll be having another ride over to downtown Phoenix this Friday, August 1 for the First Fridays Artwalk. We will meet up on the northeast corner of Mill and 5th at 6 pm, just outside of Restaurant Mexico, departing by 6:15. Leave a note in the comments if you plan to come so I know to wait for you.

Also, the cupcake rides will be resuming in about 2 months when the weather starts to cool off. Sprinkles is now open in Scottsdale, so we might have to go and check it out. Feel free to go on advance reconnaissance missions to prepare.

Lastly, in the near future I will also be organizing a Saturday morning ride to the Downtown Phoenix Farmer’s Market, most likely on Saturday, August 23, leaving downtown Tempe at 7 am and returning at approximately 10 am.

Bicycles have been making headlines across the country these days as people worry about gas prices and carbon footprints, which can only mean good news for those of us already on the road.

Keep riding,
Rebecca

If the First Fridays ride isn’t enough (see below), or if it seems too long, consider:

Feb2 Cup Cake ride

Questions? Ask in the Comments. I’ll be organizing more of these rides in the future…
