The City of Tempe is updating its Transportation Plan, and this is our chance to shape the future of walking and biking in our city. Now we need your help.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Show what you love and hate. Drop pins on the City’s map to highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly: https://transportationplan2050.tempe.gov/understanding/#shape-future
  2. Take the City’s survey. Share your priorities so Tempe knows residents want safe, connected streets: https://hdr.jotform.com/252053976539063
  3. Take TBAG’s survey. Our survey identifies the top policies we’re demanding the City enact NOW to make cycling safer: https://action.biketempe.org

TBAG has submitted 30+ pages of detailed recommendations, but here’s the big picture:

We’re calling for a low-stress network everywhere in Tempe, within half a mile of every home, that actually connects you safely to your final destination. Think: calm neighborhood routes, 25 mph speed limits, and protected bike lanes on collector roads that tie directly into crossings and paths on major arterials.

Talking points you might want to consider when completing the City’s survey:

  • Safe streets for everyone. People should be able to walk, bike, or roll without fear. Streets must be designed for safe speeds with real protection at intersections.
  • Connect people to places. The network should link directly to schools, parks, stores, jobs, and especially South Tempe, where many gaps exist.
  • Comfort matters. Shade, smooth pavement, and clear markings make trips inviting. Bike lanes and paths should be clean and safe all year.
  • Measure progress fairly. The City should track how many people walk and bike, how safe they feel, and whether all neighborhoods get equal access—not just how fast cars move.
  • Small fixes make a big difference. Residents should be able to push for quick wins like crosswalks, bike racks, or “no right on red” signs without waiting years for major projects.

Every pin you drop and every survey you complete tells City leaders that Tempe residents want a safer, more connected city. Let’s make it happen together.
