The first weekend of Pedalpalooza down, and I’m ready for a rest day. It started thursday night with a parade and doughnut ride. Friday was chock full: Breakfast on the Bridges, the Alley Stray Cat scavenger hunt, Bike Porn Film Festival, and Midnight Mystery ride. Attendance at MMR was somewhere around 500. It was huge. Saturday was again full, but I didn’t participate until the evening when we went to the Dance Party and World Naked Bike Ride. There were so many people all spread out through the city, that no one was able to get a good count, but again 500 is a pretty good estimate. It was a little chilly, but we were packed in so close there was lots of body heat. It was surreal and fun, and surprisingly comfortable. As far as I know, there were no problems and the hundreds of cops we passed were just laughing and enjoying the scene.

The party continued to rage until early morning, and all-night nudity was the norm. Sunday had a few events, but I held my Ridiulous Singletrack Ride. 60 miles of as much trail as we could find within the Portland city limits. It was supposed to take 6 hours, but it was more like 9 when we finally cut it short and went for burritos. Now, its monday, and the silliness starts at 6 pm with at least 5 designated events. I’m looking forward to the Worst Ride of the Year, where a few brave souls will don body armor and ride the crappiest trafficiest routes in Portland. Hopefully I’ll survive to tell about it.

Pedalpalooza runs until Saturday, June 23, when it culminates at the Multnomah County Bike Fair. I don’t really expect to sleep until that sunday.

Keep the faith.
